Do it with Passion!

This week's share is a card I made for my son's friend. Having lots of musical friends, these stamps are never far from my reach when it comes to making birthday and celebration cards.

The background card was splatted with Brushos and spritzed to bring it to life. I love that bit!

I then tried my florescent ink pad for the sound waves from MUSIC SPEAKS.

I stamped the text with Black archival ink - no need to emboss this as it gives a deep, crisp impression. I edged round the word PASSION with a blue fineliner.

I took a leaf out of Mark's book (from when he was demonstrating the stamps on Create & Craft) and background stamped the edgy splat from the new MUSIC ON WORLD OFF set
Then I stamped my ROCK OUT guitarist with Versamark, added black powder and heat embossed it for a real sheen. I love the shiny finish!
To finish, before I mounted the card, I edge stamped using the same background stamp from before, the Edgy splats, in black, flourescent yellow, and then a bit more in blue to fill in any empty spaces and add contrast
I kind of randomly stamped the music stave from SOUL MUSIC all over my florescent yellow backing paper onto which I then mounted the topper.

I love this 'Do it with Passion' stamp. Look right into the detail - the scratchy elements, the whispy bits....I've never seen typesetting like it. And those words - well that just sums up Visible Image in a sentence!

And here's the drummer version! A late addition but sent as a thank you to our boy's music teacher!

Craftwork Cards on Create & Craft

The Create and Craft blog today features an amazing launch of stamps from Craftwork Cards. I've had the privilege of playing with these and I was able to send my samples in early, so they are featured in the pre-show e-flyers and should be on the VT for the show. It's beyond exciting! However, the samples from the others on the Design Team...oh wow!!!! You need to see them!!!

My sunflower:

My inky splat tree:
I've made a fair few cards for this show, and I loved every minute of it. Stamping is liberating, for me it symbolises freedom, creativity, I never have a plan when I start, and I just play until I realise I'm finished.

Some creations take a long time, others take literally minutes, like the inky splat tree above, but it's always fun, and if you fancy losing yourself in inky colours and stamps, be sure to watch and record Julie's 4 shows on Thursday on Create & Craft. The only limit  is your imagination!

Enjoy the shows!

Glimmer of Light - a lightbulb moment!

It took a little while for me to spot the potential with this Death's Head Moth featured in Glimmer of Light, and the amazing skull from Mr Bone Jangles....and this is the result of my 'lightbulb moment!'
Stunning artwork from Visible Image's creative brain Mark, picked out with yellow distress ink to match the skulls, all stamped and heat embossed with black powder.
The base card was taken from my sketch book, decorated using green and yellow Brushos, stencils and green Distress ink, with two rippled circles from The Ripple Effect, heat embossed in white.
The resulting image was layered onto a card blank which I had edged with green distress ink.
All of the stamps used here are from the Visible Image 2016 summer release  which were featured on Create & Craft on Saturday 10th September.
Some fantastic packages and multibuys to be had, but if you missed out, head straight over to Visible Image's own website - where everything is available!

Just be Happy...

Another marvellous monolith to share with you, from Visible Image, decorated this time with bright funky colours and more stamps from the fantastic Summer 2016 collection, to be shown (with never seen before extra features) on Create & Craft UK on Saturday 10th September at 4pm.(and on the US show on Friday night!)

I absolutely LOVED putting this piece of work together, especially as the Just be Happy slogan pretty much sums me up right now ( and it has nothing to do with the kids being back at school this week, either!) I prepared the monolith with white gesso, then white acrylic paint, and stamped the arty splodges ( from the new version of  Music on World off) directly onto the MDF with distress ink. I added the sun effect by masking the largest circle , then stamping, applying white embossing powder and heat embossing The Ripple Effect and added the smaller circles randomly too. The funky large heart is a new add-on to the set Own Kind of Beautiful.

Reverse: Pinks and greens and Be your own Beautiful - but two of the butterflies have been stamped onto shrink plastic - now that was fun! I made 3 large ones on plain white card and matched them all up.

The wrap with the words on came about as I was test-stamping the colours on an off-cut from a previous card - and I thought 'ooh that works for me!' so I put my text on both sides of my wrap, sealed it at one end and carefully positioned it on my monolith.

Dare I say that this is my favourite piece of work from the new Summer release? I love everything that Visible Image has ever released but there is something really special about these stamps that just makes me...HAPPY!!! Thanks for reading!
Don't forget to tune in!

Marvellous Monoliths - Visible Image

I'm sharing a fun project I made just the other day, NOT a card but a fabulous monolith, designed and manufactured in the UK by Visible Image. This simple but versatile MDF project just changes your crafty perspective, and if you are new to mixed media, it's a fantastic place to start. But there's no limit to your imagination, so they are perfect for crafters of all levels of experience, and make a fabulous statement piece of artwork!
All of the stamps featured in this project are from the Summer 2016 release. For the first side I went for Mr Bone Jangles as my feature, on a background of black paint, covered in crackle glaze, and then a coat of orange acrylic, which then separated so brilliantly to reveal the black underneath. Bone himself is stamped and embossed onto white card, then coloured with a bit of orange and red ink, then Music on, world off, completed the look, with the headphones (they fit Bone perfectly) For my stamping onto the painted monolith, I just used Versamark clear ink, white or black powder, and heat set it.

For the reverse, I painted, blue, then crackle glaze , then black. A combination of inks, stencils, and embossing paste created the backgound, and a bit of dabbing of white acrylic round the edges made sure that blue version of  Bone stood out. He's again, stamped and embodded, onto a bit of shaded painted white card, and stuck on to the monolith. This time I stamped the words also onto painted card and adhered it with pva glue. A bit of matching decor on the base and the project was complete.

To see this and so much more amazing inspiration, plus mega deals on this summer's Visible Image new releases, tune into Create and Craft on Saturday 10th September, when Mark and Pauline will be demonstrating and showcasing this summer's amazing collections at 4pm
For USA customers ( and it can be accessed via the Create and Craft USA website, if you can't wait that long - at 6pm and 9pm on Friday 9th September.

Christening Cross - Tonic Studios

I love a Christening card- especially since I got my beautiful Tonic New Life Cross 2 die set - and I used pink satin thick paper and white card to build up this project.

Also used:
Tonic Patterned Panels - The inside of Classic Quatrefoil
                                    - The outer edge of Budding Vine
Tonic flower punches
Swirl die from Tonic Beautiful Blooms
Oval and scalloped oval dies
Pink ribbon and white pearls
I cut the pink panel out of a piece of A5, then the white out of a similar sized piece, but I trimmed both so that the white was about 4mm smaller each way than my pink. That way, the pink is both the feature and the border. Matting and layering with lengths of foam tape for depth and neatness built the card up, and TOP TIP - Use your craft knife and a non-stick mat to slice quickly and neatly down the length of your foam tape - economical and perfect for neat, thin strips!
I adhered the cross to the panel in the same way, AND added another thin strip out of sight, behing the cross underneath the panel to fix it fast

By doing this it guarantees an even depth and keeps your panel just raised from the base card, it's a lovely effect.
Pearls, ribbons, bows, and a sentiment to finish!
